Grand Prairie ISD 5 Plays
1. Verically and Horizontally Aligned Curriculum
My focus this quarter will be data-driven decisions, aligned curriculum and relational capacity. I will really work to increase the relational capacity with each of you on a daily basis. A final focus will be to increase the overall leadership capacity in the building. Since we are teachers and we like grades, I would grade myself at between a C and B- for the 9 weeks of school as it relates to the 5 Plays.
Take time to reflect on the 5 Plays and how you would score yourself. Also, how are you going to use the 5 plays to help you be more successful during this second quarter of school.
Grand Prairie ISD 5 Plays with Mr. Mitchell
ReplyDelete1. Vertically and Horizontally Aligned Curriculum- Through professional support I am learning and fine tuning my technique into teaching children to exhibit behavior that is conducive to learning for self and others.
2. 5e Model of Instruction is truly developing my constructivist approach; students synthesize new understanding from prior learning and new information. Working mostly with raw data, primary sources, and interactive material, I’m asking students to work with their own data (behavior progress or regression) and learn to direct their own explorations.
3. Data Driven Decisions through lifelong learning in developing proactive, positive behavior support strategies tailored to our classroom, school, and district. It’s a challenge, but for our students it’s well worth it.
4. Relational Capacity keeping the “capture kids hearts” approach by developing better behavior management strategies in schools. Through tenacious positive consistent work we can recreate the strong family rapport elementary students need for positive growth and success.
5. Intentional Leadership I think most organizations often seek skills-based training, incentives or punishments to ‘fix’ low performance, Intentional Leadership goes underneath the surface to determine what drives behavior and results. Leaving the fruit and digging up the root.
I grade myself a B-, I believe with initiating change you have to find your place. When you are part of a team, you have respect the vision of the team and find where you can be an intangible piece to the puzzle. I believe I am starting to understand my puzzle piece. That's why I will do my best to be the greatest teammate I can be. Our students need a strong team. As we grow, the students will grow.
I grade myself a C. I hope to do in the Relational Capacity with my behavior challenges to help them have a better role model. I also want to improve my 5E's Model - especially to engage them in their learning process better.
ReplyDeleteI would rate myself at a B for the first 9 weeks. I feel i have room to grow, but also feel I have made an effort to incorporate the 5 plays for GPISD.
ReplyDeleteMy rating for myself would be a B-. One of My areas of that I could improve most definitely are vertically aligned curriculum, to ensure my students receiving the entire piece to the puzzle of success. I could also improve on the 5E model of instruction. The aspect of taking the Elaborate piece a bit further with those that thirst for more, as well as learning to better differentiate my instruction, to the exact levels where my students are.
ReplyDeleteIn the Dual Language department I have the privilege of interacting with the other D.L. teachers on a regular basis, and this has helped me to better understand the challenges of the grades before and after 3rd grade. I am incorporating the 5 E Model right into lesson plans so that has kept me better cognizant of the development of lessons. We are using Data to drive our instruction as in previous years, but to a greater extent this year, particularly since we test our students every three weeks now. I have strong relationships with my students and that helps me to motiviate them to excell. I am exercising leadership as a teacher and lead teacher, by anticipating and responding to the needs of students and teachers. Here are my own self scores: (1) B- (2) C+ (3) B- (4) A (5) A-.
ReplyDeleteI would rate myself an average of B+. There is certainly room for improvement in all areas. I strive to improve at all times, but I know that I am working extremely hard to meet the needs of my students in these areas. Since a few of my GT students have not met my expectations on assessments, I found I'm using data driven decisions more than ever before. The GT curriculum is v & h aligned, and I am using the 5e model of instruction. I strive to increase the relational capacity with each of my students on a regular basis, and as a veteran teacher, I feel it is my duty to increase my leadership.

ReplyDeleteThis year I will utilize the Grand Prairie ISD 5 Plays to improve instruction. I will use the Verically and Horizontally Aligned Curriculum to build upon student knowledge and skills.I will implement the 5e Model of Instruction by engaging students in creative lessons. Data Driven Decisions will play a part in focusing student learning through anaylzing the first semester art benchmark. I will use Relational Capacity through Capturing Kids Hearts and participating in Handprints on Hearts. Finally, I will use Intentional Leadership by leading an art club every thursday after school.
ReplyDeleteFor the first nine weeks I would rate myself as an overall B. I have room to improve but I feel that the relational capacity from the GPISD 5 Plays, with my students is where it needs to be. I will continue to incorporate Capturing Kids Hearts and Handprints on Hearts. My focus is to look at the students' data from assessments, when we have them this second nine weeks, and use the data to improve my instruction.
ReplyDeleteFor the first 9 weeks (yay! I made it through the first 9 weeks) I would grade myself a C-. I am pretty tough on myself and see nothing but room for growth in all areas of the 5 plays. I for sure want to incorporate the 5E plan more in my lesson plans.
ReplyDeleteI am rating myself as a C+ to B- on the five play model. I am incorporating the 5 E model in my lessons but need to improve on the engaging part of the model. After analyzing our data from the nine weeks assessment, I can see a much better picture of where I need to differentiate my instructions in order to reach our students. I will continue to follow Capturing Kids Hearts and Rachel's Challenge program to improve on my relational capacity as well as Internal Leadership with students and my teammates.

ReplyDeleteThis first nine weeks have gone by extremely fast, I would rate myself a B. After our data talks I need to build relational capacity with the teachers to help support them in helping our students to excel. I will continue to use data to determine the needs of our students and to work at providing support to teachers to differentiate instruction with the 5E Model.
ReplyDeleteIn my position, I have the privilege to be able to work with small groups of students where I can focus on building relational capacity with them. I have also recognized the need to build relational capacity with my teammates and other staff, and I have been working hard to do so. I think my focus now is on intentional leadership. How can I affect the students and teacher in a positive manner? I will continue to work on both, because there is plenty of room for improvement.
ReplyDeleteI definitely want and need to improve in all areas of the of the 5 plays. I believe I have made progress, but I give myself a C+ or B-, I do not know which one! I Definitely have a lot more to learn and put in practice the next 9 weeks.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the alignment of the curriculum, I believe we have been doing a good job (4th grade teachers), we have a good idea of what 3rd and 5th require and we develop our lesson plans according to those needs with the help of the 5E model.
ReplyDeleteAfter our first 9 weeks I can say I will be using the data to better prepare our students. Differentiation, small group instruction and vocabulary are the next main three things in my classroom.
My goal in the relational capacity department will be with our students' parents. Ms. Lozada does an excellent job at this, not too much myself. I have to get better at communicating with them.
Leadership = delegating responsibilities. The more our students do themselves, the more they learn.
I would say that vertical and horizontal alignment have been a plus for me. After teaching 3rd grade for 10+years, I kinda know what students have already learned so I can stay in my lane and focus on what they need to know to be ready for 5th. An area that I need to work on is the data driven decision making. We do the dissecting of the data, but its difficult to find the time to reteach/review the areas that are low. It is our (4th grade math and science teachers) goal to do a better job of spiraling these SEs into our weekly lessons so that we can see improvement each time we assess. No grade given.
ReplyDeleteI would give myself a C+. I need to work more on the 5E model and intentional leadership. Overall I need to work on the 5Plays.
ReplyDeleteI give myself a B+. I do well on moving a lesson in the 5E model from engagement all the way through. I will continue to make instructional decisions based on data, to be able to increase student performance. I also enjoy visiting first grade and third grade to be able to understand where my students are coming from and where they are going.
ReplyDeleteI believe I do a good job at taking kids through the the five e model. Also I taught 3rd grade for many years so I really know what foundation they are going to need to be successful next year. I strive to make that happen. The relational capacity with my students is growing with the incorporation of guided reading and they seem to be responding to me better as well. So a B in those areas would fit the bill. The one place I could improve on is the data driven decision making. It is a hard balance with time to reteach and teach what is on the agenda for this nine weeks and there is always room for improvement there.
ReplyDeleteI have been teaching kindergarten for a long time and feel pretty confident with vertical alignment. I think I have a good relationship with students, parents, and staff. I use data to determine student needs and drive instruction. I am struggling this year with completion of the 5E model due to time. Therefore I grade myself a C for the first nine weeks because I don't feel this has been my best year.
ReplyDeleteThis 1st nine weeks I focused intentional on relational building. In my experience in this position I have come to understand that this play is the foundational piece for me, to success with the other 4. Data, curriculum and instruction will be my focus for this 2nd nine weeks, because good data drives instruction.
ReplyDeleteI would give myself a C overall this first 9 weeks. As we move into cycle 2 for cluster, I will be focusing on vertically & horizontally aligned curriculum as we implement our first thinking strategy. Data driven decision making will be vital as we plan what is best for our campus. I'm also looking forward to building relational capacity by spending more time with the teachers I support outside of cluster meetings.
ReplyDeleteAs to the 5 plays,i would grade myself with a C+. I have Lot of room to grow with vertically aligned curriculum. I will work to make sure im staying in my lane and focus more on problem solving and work my students on higher order thinking skills.

ReplyDeleteI would give myself a B for the first nine weeks. I could do a better job at implementing the 5E Model to capacity. This coming nine weeks, my goal is to build a better relationship with my parents.
ReplyDeleteI would give myself a B-. I have areas where I need to be mindful of implementing such as vertical and horizontal alignment and intentional leadership . There are some areas that I naturally do such as 5E model and relational capacity.
ReplyDeleteI rate myself a B- in 1,2,3 and 4. I have a better understanding of the 5E model this year and always use Data to adjust my lessons. I rate myself a c in Intentional Leadership. I will work on that these next nine weeks.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the 5E model, I would have to say that this first 9wks have been a work in progress. Relational capacity has been another play that I am still working on getting better. I need to create better relationships with my students and try to understand their needs a little better. Overall grade would have to be a B-.
ReplyDeleteI would give myself a C. I have room for improvement. One of the areas I plan on focusing on is vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum so that I can meet the needs of my students. I will continue to use the data to drive my instruction.
ReplyDeleteFor this first 9 weeks, I would grade myself as a B-. I always check for vertical and horizontal alignment with regards to curriculum for K and make sure I cover some areas of 1st grade as well. I know money isn't a part of the K math but it's really important for them to have a fundamental sense of money before entering 1st. For the 5E model, I make sure to incorporate a "hook" and keep the students engaged with respect to their interests while learning the new vocabulary and content. For data driven decisions, I know we as K teachers really pay attention to details for aquiring phonemic awareness skills and creating activities that promote personal connections to new content too. For relational capacity, I refer daily to our social contract, practice Rachel's Challenge and CKH mentoring to the students as well as establishing routines for manners, etiquette and respect in our classroom. Lastly, intentional leadership is something I feel I am too hard on with my students. When I correct, I try and make sure I explain the reasons for the reinforcement and its impact on us and the people around us. As a teacher, I think we are always seeking improvement and search for ways to do it and in every area of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI will listen to my student's hearts so they will want to hear what I have to offer to help in their success.
ReplyDeleteFor the first nine weeks of the current school year I would give myself a B overall. There is always room for improvement; currently I would like to focus on data driven decisions and the 5e model. Specifically, I would like to continue implementing the TAP program in my classroom because I know it touches on all of the 5 plays.
ReplyDeleteIn my postion I have the honor of serving small kids and helping teachers be more successful. I would say I am about a B- on most of the 5 plays. I rate myself an A on Data Driven Decisions, but I do need to address and share results more with the teachers. Vertical and Horizontal Aligned Curriculum is a no brainer for me in scinece. I hope I have shared with the teachers enough knowledge on that subject that our Readiness standards are great for the test this Spring.
